Meet the Author: David Giffels

Join David Giffels, author and assistant professor of English at The University of Akron as he unveils his new book, The Hard Way on Purpose.  Giffels was a longtime columnist for The Akron Beacon Journal and a commentator and essayist on National Public Radio station on WKSU. His previous book, All the Way Home: Building a Family in a Falling-Down House received widespread acclaim. The New York Times described it as “sweet and funny” and the book topped the “Fantastic Summer Reads” list in Oprah’s O at Home magazine.

As former household Chief of Staff, Anneliese Nefos will share first-hand reminiscences of history and humor regarding one of the most iconic figures of the 20th century, Sir Winston Churchill at the Friends of the Library Annual Meeting.  Born in Switzerland, Nefos worked for the Churchills in the early 1960’s and then for Interpol before emigrating to the states in 1970.

Zentangle: Level One

Zentangle is a unique art form used to create beautiful images from repetitive patterns. At first glance, a Zentangle may seem intricate and complex, yet its simplicity, fun and captivating nature become clear when you see how it’s done.  People who are convinced they cannot draw a Zentangle often find within 15 minutes they have easily accomplished what they thought was impossible. Join Certified Zentangle Teacher, Deborah Phelps Miller as she leads you step-by-step through this beginner’s Zentangle class.
