The Story of Ohio's Canals

Join Tom O’Grady, instructor at Ohio University, for his presentation on Ohio canals. Beginning in 1825, Ohio began constructing its canal system that eventually included nearly 1,000 miles of channel and towpaths laced with stone locks and culverts, aqueducts, feeder lakes, and slack water ponds. These canals opened Ohio up to world commerce, allowing the export of surplus grains and manufactured goods and the import of items made in New York, London, and Paris.

Meet some of Stow’s founding families by taking a tour of Stow Cemetery. Join Local History Librarian Beth Daugherty to learn about our early settlers and their contributions to Stow’s community. See the gravestones of Jonathan Gaylord, Revolutionary War veteran, and his wife Elizabeth, both born in 1745.  Elizabeth was the first burial in Stow Cemetery. Hear about prominent settler, Judge William Wetmore, who brought the first party of settlers to Stow Township in 1804.

The Cuyahoga Falls Community Band has been performing for over 100 years. Join them upstairs in the Stow-Munroe Falls Room for a special holiday concert. This free program is cosponsored by the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library, the Cuyahoga Falls Community Band and the Friends of the Library.

Learn how to support your health and delight your senses by using essential oils with Christina Dawson, doTERRA Wellness Advocate.  Essential oils are powerful aromatic compounds that can be incredibly beneficial for a variety of health concerns including women’s health. This class will cover how essential oils can help women’s issues such as: hormonal imbalance, low energy, stress, aging skin, acne, thinning hair, weight management and joint pain. We will also review the basics of using essential oils and safety guidelines.
