If you love beautiful books and like to draw, this program is right for you! On January 16, from 2:00 to 3:00 Miss Joan will review 6 beautifully illustrated picture books that may be in the running for the soon-to-be announced winner of the 2015 Caldecott Award. This award is granted for artwork rather than text. Kids in grades 2 through 5 will look at the wonderful artwork, discuss what they like about each style then vote on a “winner”, and draw an illustration of their own.
Do you like comics and graphic novels? Then this is the perfect program for you! Join Miss Kristin Saturday, January 17 at 11 a.m. for an awesome comics program for kids in kindergarten through 4th grade. Make your own comic, play Kryptonite Hot Potato, make your own superhero name, find out about all kinds of cool comics and graphic novels (including how to download them onto your tablet) and make a superhero mask to help create your new secret identity. We'll also play a game involving guessing the identities of various life-size superhero silhouettes.
Have you read the Buckeye Children's Book Award winner Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library by Chris Grabenstein? On Saturday, February 28 from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 Noon, registered contestants will have the chance to play the game and solve the puzzle to escape from Spike's Place! Children in grades 4-6 will play as teams to figure out all of the clues in this scavenger hunt. Mini games during the scavenger hunt will allow winners to choose one of the answers to the clues. Snacks will be provided just like in the book!
Express Yourself! art program for tweens returns for the winter/spring! Join Miss Nancy and other kids in grades 3-6 as we try different art forms. Here's a look at what we'll be doing:
