All teens who have completed grades 7-12 by May 31, 2018, are encouraged to apply for teen volunteer positions in the children's department. All application packets are available in the children's department.

To be a volunteer, applications, notary forms, and volunteer availability forms are due at one of three mandatory drop-in teen volunteer orientations. Teens must attend one orientation to be eligible to volunteer:

Peeped into any good books recently? Or are you more of a movie Peep? How about Famous Peeps In History or in Music? Let your imagination run to Peeps! Create a diorama in a box depicting your favorite book, movie, historical scene, or anything you like, using marshmallow Peeps®. (Just keep it family-friendly and suitable for all audiences.)  For kids (4-11), teens (12-18) and grownups too!

Ready Player One

The movie version of Ready Player One, the popular book by Ernest Cline about a teen trying to win a global virtual reality scavenger hunt, premieres on March 30th. Are you a “gunter”? Even if you have never read this exciting science fiction book, you’ll want to hunt some virtual “easter eggs” with us on Wed. March 28th from 3:00pm to 8:00pm. Teens in grades 7 and up and adults are invited to drop in and try out retro video game systems like Nintendo and Sega, as well as some newer systems and even virtual reality equipment you can use with just your smartphone!

Japanese Calligraphy Workshop

Learn how to do Japanese Calligraphy from KSU Japan Outreach Coordinator Mr. Haruhide Osugi! In this hands on workshop Mr. Osugi will talk about Japanese culture and teach the basics of Japanese calligraphy to teens and any interested adults. This is an extension activity for our teen Anime Club but anyone is welcome to stop by to participate. No registration necessary.

 

Chocolate Fest

Celebrate all things chocolate at the Chocolate Fest on February 21 at 7 PM! Teens in grades 7 to 12 will get to play chocolate games and activities! Bring your sweet tooth!

Join the Teen Winter Reading Challenge! Our library is participating in this challenge with over 100 other libraries around the world. We challenge all teens in grades 6 to 12 to read at least 6 books during the months of January and February, and track those books online using smfpl.beanstack.org.

Harry Potter Fantastic Beasts Art Exhibit Submissions

Drop off your original art no later than 5 PM January 27!

Artists of all ages are encouraged to submit an original work of art depicting one of the magical creatures and fantastic beasts of the Harry Potter universe. Bring entries to the information services desk or the children's department reference desk during the week of January 21, 2018. Deadline for art submissions is Saturday, January 27, 2018 by 5 PM.

Art will be on display during the week of January 28 as we prepare for Harry Potter Book Night on Thursday, February 1 from 6-8 PM.

Handel's Ice Cream, Face Painting, Balloon Twisting & Inflatables
