Pride in Your Library Day!

Date:
06/27/2013 (All day)

The library invites you to join us for a full day of activities.

The day will kick off with a QR code scavenger hunt, which will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Participants of all ages will be able to scan a QR code on their smartphones to get clues in the scavenger hunt. The event was designed to show participants the new changes and features in the library. There will also be a chance to enter to win a $50 Visa gift card.

Children ages 3 to 5 are invited to a story hour from 10:30 to 11 a.m. in the new Storytime Room. There is no registration necessary.

Sue Durante, more commonly known as The Bubble Lady, will be performing from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The Bubble Lady has always been a hit at the library, and comes back by popular demand two times a year. She blows bubbles of different sizes, some that children are even able to stand inside.

From 2 to 3 p.m., there will be a community jazz concert. The musicians have been playing at the library for more than 40 years and it's always been a crowd favorite.

The day will end with a performance from the Akron Pops Orchestra from 7 to 8:15 p.m. There will be free Handel's ice cream, along with face painting and balloon twisting. The event will take place on the lawn, and attendees should bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit on. If the weather is bad, it will be indoors.

This is the first time the Akron Pops Orchestra has performed at the library.
