Tax Program 2006 Each taxpayer must bring: Appointments will be taken at the front Circulation Desk. Appointments are one hour for each taxpayer. This tax program is designed for low-middle income elderly (60+ years), but younger people may also participate. Participants should have an annual income of $60,000 or less. This program is sponsored by AARP.

Computer Volunteer Local History The Local History Room is looking for "a few good people." Volunteers are needed to staff the Room on afternoons or evenings once a week. The Local History Room is a unique resource for the community, providing access to Stow's 200-year history via books, maps, news clippings, photo albums and more. Volunteers will welcome visitors and help them find information, as well as perform tasks to further organize the collection. If you are at least 18 and like to sleuth out the occasional mystery, please call Bridget Hair at 330-688-3295.

Drive-Up Window Don't forget about the Drive-Up Window service at Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library. This is an especially helpful service during inclement weather! The drive-up window is open during regular library hours and closes 15 minutes before library closing.

Corner Gallery
The Friends, one of the largest organizations in Stow, is a citizen support group for Library services and activities. They sponsor booksales as well as the annual Needlework Show and other activities. Friends meet the third Tuesday of every month (except December and July) at 2:00 p.m. in the upstairs meeting room. Friends membership is currently at 450 members. If you are interested in joining Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library Friends of the Library you may call the library at 330-688-3295 for further information, or you may go to the Friends page on the library website (www.smfpl.org/friends.htm) for an online application. ![]() This quilt, recently displayed over the Circulation Desk, was created by Leigh McDonald, fiber artist, pattern designer, and quilting instructor. Leigh teaches workshops around the country. Her quilts are colorful and innovative.
Many books on teen health topics are located with other books on health in the 613 to 616 section of the library. Books which cover the social aspects of certain issues are in the 300s. Topics cover a wide range of issues such as asthma, eating disorders, learning disabilities, diabetes, depression, cancer, and smoking. Teens will also find books on teen health concerns in the Teen Department non-fiction section. Books written especially for Teens are marked with a yellow sticker. To find books on a particular topic, use title keyword on the library catalog. Some new titles purchased during the past year include Eating Disorders Information for Teens and Learning Disabilities Information for Teens, both edited by Sandra August Lawton; Suicide Information For Teens: Health Tips About Suicide Causes and Prevention; Including Facts About Depression, Risk Factors, Getting Help, Survivor Support, and More edited by Joyce Brennfleck Shannon. Titles written for parents include Healthy Teens, Body and Soul: A Parent's Complete Guide to Adolescent Health by Andrea Marks and Betty Rothbart; Beyond the Big Talk: Every Parent's Guide to Raising Sexually Healthy Teens - From Middle School to High School and Beyond by Debra W. Haffner; and The Teen Health Book: A Parents' Guide to Adolescent Health and Well-Being by Ralph I. Lopez. Parents and Teens can also find health and medical information online, including the website of Akron Childrens Hospital at www.akronchildrens.org. Go to "For Patients and Visitors" and click on "For Teens." Topics covered range from food and fitness to diseases and conditions to school and jobs. Q&A helps answer some of the questions teens may have, but are not comfortable asking. Family Doctor at http://familydoctor.org, sponsored by the American Academy of Family Physicians, has a section for teens under the "Parents and Kids" link.
