Due to economic uncertainties and a decline in public library revenue from the State, the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library will be increasing library fines & fees for some of its services beginning April 26th. In 2008 the library received $150,000 less state revenue than in 2007. According to the Ohio Library Council financial projections for tax revenue for 2009, public libraries can expect a drop in Public Library Funding (PLF) of 7-8% overall from 2008.
Overdue fines are charged at a nominal rate to encourage people to return items in a timely manner. This supports the Library's goal of ensuring that materials are available for everyone to use. Fees are charged at a fixed rate to help defray the cost of replacing lost or damaged materials. The new fines and fees are as follows:
