CHAMBERLAIN branch of ASCPL was my escape place growing up. With working parents, a live-in grandfather, and sometimes bothersome siblings, I would walk to "my place" nearly a mile away. I could be found sitting on a wooden stool in the corner of the non-fiction shelving reading by myself. Over the days, months, and eventually years, I read every book on subjects that interested me. I was always excited when a book I hadn't read yet was returned to it's place by the librarian. I don't remember checking too many books out and taking them home, maybe because then my family would know where I often disappeared to. That was the beginning of my romance with libraries that led to my 30 year career of library employment.
