Donations of book and materials for the September and April Book Sales are accepted anytime at the circulation desk at the library. On Book Donation Day curb service is provided at the back door of the library. Passes for the “Friends Pre-Sale” will be given to those who donate 10 or more items.
What Happens to My Donations?
This question is frequently asked of volunteers working at the Book Sales. The Library gets the first pick of the donated books and materials. Those who select and buy for the collection love to see recent best sellers and new-looking books and welcome the opportunity to receive any they can use.
All books and other materials are then checked and sorted by volunteers. Volunteers work throughout the year to sort books and materials into categories for the sale. All items are packed, marked, and stored until the next sale.
Before each sale, books must be moved from storage to the sale room and unpacked into their designated categories. This would not be possible without the many volunteers who help out during set-up day and the sale days. The entire process of preparing for these April and September Sales requires many hours and many helping hands.
Anyone who would like to help may email Barb Beiling. Volunteer forms are also available at the Friends' Informational stand by the elevator, and may be turned in at the Library desk or mailed to the Library.
At the end of the book sale, any books and materials not sold are free to teachers and non-profit organizations. Materials that cannot be sold or given away are sent for recycling. This process keeps the materials out of our landfills and also assures that we will have a different selection of materials at our next sale.
