Showcase your photography skills during our Virtual Amateur Photography Contest.
Photos may be emailed to photos@smfpl.org between Mon., July 13 and midnight Sat., July 25.
For teen & adult amateur photographers.
Maximum of 2 photos/person may be submitted.


No late entries will be accepted. Winners will be announced and all photos exhibited on the library’s social media and website on Friday, July 31.  The photo that receives the most “likes” in the contest’s Facebook album by 5 PM on Tuesday, August 4 will win the Stephen Pierce Memorial People’s Choice Award, which will be announced on Wednesday, August 5.


How to enter:
•    Submit the highest resolution version of your photo to photos@smfpl.org
•    If entering two photos, please email them separately
•    Give your photo a title if you wish; we will post any titles as captions in the online album.
•    Include in the email: your name, phone number, if you are entering as Teen or Adult, and what category you are entering: People, Flora & Fauna (plants and animals), or Landscapes
     (Judges may re-categorize photos if necessary.).
•    By submitting your photo you are agreeing that the image is your original work.
•    Enter between July 13 and midnight Saturday, July 25


There will be three cash prizes per category, per age group, compliments of the Friends of the Library:
First Place:.............................$20
Second Place:.......................$15
Third Place:...........................$10
Adult Best of Show.............$100*
Teen Best of Show...............$75*
Steven Pierce Memorial People’s Choice Award.......................$20


* This year the Adult Best of Show will also receive a $100 digital gift card for B&H Photography (bhphotovideo.com), and the Teen Best of Show will receive a $75 digital gift card for B&H Photography, courtesy of the Akron Camera Club.

Each photo will be judged for impact, composition and quality of lighting. The judges are local professional photographers and instructors: Jim Roetzel, Alan Doe, and Gary Harwood.

The Akron Camera Club, tracing its roots to the late 1800s, offers its members opportunities for in person and online activities such as mentoring, discussions, lectures, projects, critiques, and field trips involving a variety of photographic interests.
