Parchment work is a centuries old art form originating in Europe. It was later introduced in South America by missionaries. In recent years it has found its way into the Netherlands and many other countries, including the United States. According to Ms. Moore, parchment work is a relatively easy and satisfying art form and can be accomplished with a little time and patience.

The Young Adult (Teen Scene) and the Childrens Departments are ready for students returning to school. Both departments offer a variety of materials for students and teachers. The Young Adult Deparment has added 15 CliffsComplete books to the YA Reference section. These books contain the complete original work plus commentary, notes and definitions, a character map and review exercises. Some of the titles are Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, Shakespeare's Hamlet, and Twain's Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. CliffsComplete are only for use in the library, but Cliffs Notes may be checked out. Cliffs Notes contain summaries of classic books, as well as information on the author, character analyses, and questions for review. Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library has over 100 Cliffs Notes. The Teen Scene homework center, near the videos, now has a computer for word processing. College catalogs are also available, along with notices about library programs and books for special homework assignments.
The Teen Scene reference section contains reference books for students in grades seven through twelve. These resources are very helpful for country reports (Culture Grams), biographical information on scientists and inventors (Biographical Encyclopedia of Scientists), maps (Historical Maps on File), historical information on various time periods (Daily Life in Elizabethan England), and government assignments (Congress A to Z and How Government Works). The YA reference books are right around the corner from Adult reference, so Teens have access to the Adult reference materials also.
