Laptop Lending Guidelines

SMFPL offers laptops and accessories for use inside the library. To borrow a laptop, please visit the Information Desk.

Before checking out a laptop, please review the following guidelines:

  • In-Library Use Only: Laptops may not be taken outside the library.
  • Eligibility: Borrowers must be 18 or older, have a current SMFPL library card in good standing, and must sign a Laptop Borrower’s Agreement.
  • Guest Access (for people who don't have library cards): Guest passes will not be issued for laptop use, except for library-sponsored programs.  Laptop users must sign up for their own library card.
  • Loan Period: Laptops may be used for up to two hours per session.
  • Availability: Laptops are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Availability may be limited during library programs.
  • Supervision: Do not leave the laptop unattended. If you need to step away briefly, return the laptop and accessories to the Information Desk.
  • Returns: All laptops and accessories must be returned:
    • In the same condition as issued.
    • To the Information Desk 15-minutes before closing time on the same day they are checked out.
  • Responsibility: If a laptop or accessory is damaged, lost, or not returned on time, you will be responsible for replacement costs and processing fees, up to $620.00.
  • Saving Work: Save all files to a USB drive or cloud storage. All data is erased after each session.
  • Internet Use: Use of library laptops is subject to SMFPL’s Internet Access Policy.
